At the LEDC Board Meeting in August a wrap-up presentation was given of the SLP. Sandi Biszantz gave a wonderful testimonial of her time in the program after the PowerPoint presentation. If you would like to download the presentation click here.

On Saturday four of the guys went golfing at Eaglebrook.  It was nice and hot outside!!!  I put the picture below of the group

I cannot believe how fast this program flew by. It seemed like everyone enjoyed the various tours on our last day! I definitely learned a ton about LRMC and thought seeing the Bypass Surgery was pretty cool. (I know some of you almost fainted so I am glad we all got out okay.) I think I agree with everyone that the hamburger bun we ate was possibly the best one I have ever had in my life. SWS always amazes me…sooo much alcohol…such a detailed system and all SO high tech!

Thanks to all who came out and helped with the Community Service Day. We battled the heat a bit, but had a great deal of fun. We counted over 50+ kids and 200+ people total. This definitely was a positive event in the neighborhood, helped better our relationships with the Police/Fire departments, recruit for the neighborhood association and get to know our neighbors better. I put a few pictures below. The rest are on flickr!

What an awesome day at Cypress Gardens. It seemed like it definitely depended on your tour guide for the early part of the day. The best part was with the 20 or so participants who stayed to play at the park. I personally have never had so much fun at a park then that. If you get the chance to go back definitely invite Olsiny. She by far is the best person to ride an amusement park ride with!

Parking: Park in the main gates…make sure to say you are with the SLP or LEDC group. (This way you will NOT pay for parking.)  There will be people helping us at the main gates and Meg will be there early with nametags, etc.

This Saturday we have the opportunity to give back to the Community.  The Parker Street Neighborhood as been written up as one of the worst neighborhoods in Lakeland.  Plagued with poverty, drugs and prostitution the City CRA and Parker Street Ministries have worked diligently to help the neighbors rise up and reclaim their neighborhood.

This weekend there is a block party going on.  The Lakeland Police Department will have a K-9 demonstration, Parker Street Ministries will provide hot dogs/chips/drinks for people and the SLP group will run games/activities for neighborhood kids.

We need people who are willing to run games/activities with the kids.  Let us know if you are able to come.  Even if you can only work a certain shift we will be excited to have you!
